Rumor has it the Dallas Cowboys are already scouting my boy Tyrell! I can’t wait to watch him play on Sundays.
And…okay…I hope he’ll hook me up with a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. None of them have restraining orders on me … yet.

For Corey and Chris and all you Halo nerds fans…
Eight down, six to go
Arkansas State strong safety and Preseason Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year Tyrell Johnson picked up eight more tackles Saturday night against the Volunteers.
Johnson now has 26 tackles this season, 295 for his career and needs six more tackles to become the Sun Belt’s all-time leading tackler. Johnson also had his second interception this year — the eighth of his career — and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown to go along with three pass break-ups.
I’m sure having me for both Comp I and Comp II didn’t totally revolutionize my boy Tyrell Johnson’s life. And I’m sure the life-size posters he has up in his room of me really doesn’t inspire him to greatness. But, well, he was just a waterboy on the team before I came into his life. What can I say? You’re welcome, Tyrell. You’re welcome.
“The Nun Frisk”
Young Muslim security agent frisks elderly Catholic nun.
Umm…
UPDATE: I only meant “Umm…” as in, “Uh… Riiiight…” as in, “Muslim running airport security checkpoint and full cavity searching 80-year-old nun seems…seems…” I got some interesting emails thinking that “Umm…” meant “Ooh…nuns is sexy…” which I totally didn’t mean. Although…
Kidding.
Y’all know I like country music just about as much as I like NASCAR and hockey. Which is to say not at all. The only way you’d get me to come to something that had all 3 in it is, if, say, NASCAR drivers ran over hockey players and country singers every couple of laps.
But I heart me some Little Big Town! My buddy Phillip Sweet, from Jonesboro, is the blond dude. (Inside scoop: He doesn’t know how to play guitar. He’s totally faking it in the video.) Their latest record is pretty good. (Yes, Meagan, I said “record.” Nerd.) Here’s “Boondocks.”
Lauren and I are trying to decide how many kids we’re going to have. I say 7. She says not if I was the last guy on earth. I hope we can compromise.
Since Brandy looked at me like I was smoking crack today when I said 7 kids, all girls…here they are.
My boy Reggie Arnold stopped by before the big SMU game Saturday. He was looking for some inspiration. He said, “Mr. Beasley, how do you do it? How are you so awesome with your athletic talent and perform at such a high level of excellence every day?” Or something like that.
After I gave him my autograph and some jaw-droppingly good advice, he went out and did this… You’re welcome, Reggie. You’re welcome.
Run Reggie run
Arkansas State tailback Reggie Arnold just keeps bowling through would-be tacklers.
The redshirt sophomore equaled a career-best with 156 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in the Indians’ 17-point win over Southern Methodist. The last time Arnold put up those kind of numbers, it took him one less carry as he ran for 156 in the 2006 season-finale at Louisiana-Lafayette.
It was the sixth time in his career that Arnold has surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark and moved him to No. 26 in the nation with an average of 112 yards a game so far this season. Only Louisiana-Monroe’s Calvin Dawson has fared better among Sun Belt players as Dawson has carried for 397 yards in three games this season.
Arnold felt a little better about himself and the Indians with this year’s win after the Mustangs manhandled ASU last season 55-9.
“Anytime you can come back and get a victory against a team that beat you as bad as SMU did last year I think it brings settlement to everything,” Arnold said.
Christin will totally hate on me for putting this here but…the ASU Herald did a very nice feature story on her this week. By the way, I was once on a boys volleyball team. I was a sexy beast in my red, white, and blue headband, high and tight shorts, and knee and elbow pads. The girls team killed us…once they got through laughing. Shut up.
Freshman starring for Lady Indian volleyball
Don’t tell Christin Baker that freshman can’t come in and make a difference. She’ll beg to differ.
The Edmond, Okla., native is now a starter on the Arkansas State volleyball team. However, Baker knew gaining a place in the starting lineup was something that would not be handed to her.
“I think you are always coming into prove something and especially being a freshman and getting to start, you kinda have to earn your spot,” said Baker.
And earn her spot, she has. ASU head coach Craig Cummings referred to Christin as “a big surprise” and certainly an asset to his young team.
Baker’s play early on has certainly not disappointed her head coach. In the UCA Invitational tournament this past weekend, Baker recorded 36 kills in three games. For the season, she now has 83 kills.
Despite Baker’s numbers, the Lady Indians have still stumbled out of the gate to a 3-6 start.
“It’s always frustrating to lose but we just come into practice working hard and expecting more wins,” said Baker.
The rest of the team shares Baker’s resilient spirit. The Tribe has fought hard against good teams and continues to improve and play as a team. One example of this tough mentality was the season’s second match against Ole Miss when the Lady Indians dropped their first two games, before eventually losing in five.
Speaking of teams and working together, Baker compared the difference of playing in high school and college volleyball games.
“It’s a lot more intense,” said Baker. “Ball control is better. Everyone is a lot more dedicated in college.”
That dedicated spirit sometimes requires a balance between volleyball and college life.
“We got to experience a little more college life in the summer, but it’s still volleyball,” a laughing Baker said.
While Baker enjoys Jonesboro, it’s been a big adjustment. She had to acclimate to new surroundings, a completely new team and a brand new head coach. Christin moved from the red dirt of Edmond, which is about 10 minutes from Oklahoma City, to the rice fields of Jonesboro.
“It’s always good to be home. This is just different. It’s a lot smaller,” said Baker. “It is an adjustment. I like it here too. But home is always home.”
